If you want to broaden your vocabulary, have the opportunity to discuss more complex topics in English, improve your listening and reading skills – then this could be the group for you. Are you Getting Started in Whistler?

We are excited to let you know that the Whistler Welcome Centre is starting a new 4-week program; Getting Started. This program is for people who are new to Whistler. It will provide information on how to get set up – for example, where to go to get your driving license, your travel insurance, your Medical coverage, where you can get help to find a job… and give you an opportunity to practice your English in a friendly, no pressure environment. Getting Started will help you

  • practice English language conversation and communication – learn the basics to be successful at work in Canada
  • meet other people new to Whistler, make friends and connections, and get set up for a fun, great winter.
  • learn where to go and how to get help to make the most of your time in Whistler.

The Getting Started in Whistler program will run for 4 weeks in November – and places are limited, make sure to sign up soon….

Want to register? Have questions? Contact Izumi Inoue or Bekah Jones at info@welcomewhistler.com or call 604.698.5960

We are still looking for a day and location for the General English upper intermediate/advanced level group and we will post that as soon as we can. That class will start as soon as possible and a location is confirmed.

ESL groups starting again

Now that fall is here, ESL groups are starting again next week (September 8).

There are a few changes this year because the same rooms are not available, and we’ve had to find an alternative to the school short term while the teachers are on strike.

The confirmed schedule right now is:

  • Monday morning 10 to 12 in the Whistler Library: general conversation. Come learn about Canada, BC and the local community. Improve your communication
  • Monday evening 6 to 7.30pm at Tamwood language school (second floor at Village Gate – door opposite the bookstore) – higher level group (upper intermediate/advanced). This is a temporary location till the teachers strike is over and we can use the school again.
  • A second group is being planned for Wednesday evening for lower and intermediate levels and will be confirmed later.

A series of topic-focused language workshops during fall and winter is also being planned and the schedule will be posted as soon as it is confirmed.

If you have any questions please contact Carole at cstretch@capilanou.ca or call her on 604 698 7226.
