Build on your outdoor survival knowledge with experts from BC AdventureSmart.
What’s it about?
Participants will learn about personal preparedness for the outdoors, safe activities and practices, to help reduce the number and severity of search and rescue incidents.
What topics will be covered?
~ Trip Planning – making a plan and leaving a trip plan.
~ Training – physical, certification-based, mentorship, mental strength, decision making.
~ Taking Essentials – basic safety items, plus adding season and sport-specific gear.
~ What to do in an emergency.
Who can participate?
Anyone interested in outdoor recreation and personal preparedness for outdoor activities such as hiking, backcountry adventures, mountain biking, 4x4ing, bike touring, geocaching, camping, and many others.

About the presenter:
Since 1992, Sandra Riches has been involved in outdoor recreation management including time spent as a park ranger and in provincial/national incident prevention. Fast forward to today, Sandra is now entering her 18th year with BC AdventureSmart as the executive director. She manages and directs all aspects of the program and supports 500+ volunteer outdoor educators in BC. Sandra closely collaborates with BC’s 79 search and rescue groups, consisting of 3,000+ volunteers, industry partners, tourism agencies, destination marketing organizations and parks – all helping to reduce the number and severity of incidents in British Columbia and across Canada.
